Failaka island is an island that belongs to Kuwait in the Persian Gulf. The island is 20 km off the coast of Kuwait City in the Persian Gulf. Coordinates: 29°26?N 48°20?E
[
Kubbar Island
]
Kubbar is an island belonging to the state of Kuwait in the Persian Gulf. It is located roughly 30 kilometers off of the southern coast of Kuwait and 29 kilometres off of the coast of Failaka.
The island is sandy, with low coasts and is inhabited by various forms of wildlife.
[
Auhah Island
]
Auhah Island is a small island belonging to Kuwait. It is 800 meters long by 540 meters wide and is located 16 kilometers south-east of Failaka Island, and 41 kilometers from Salmiya on the mainland.
Apart from a light-house and a small heliport, the island is mainly uninhabited.
[
Miskan Island
]
Miskan island is a small, uninhabited island in the Persian Gulf off Kuwait. It is to the south of Bubiyan Island. It is about 1.2 kilometers long and 800 meters wide.
The distance between it and Failaka Island, which lies to the north, is approximately 3.2 kilometers. The distance between Miskan and the nearest part of mainland Kuwait is about 24 kilometers. Miskan Island is devoid of any vital activity save a lighthouse to guide ships sailing in the Gulf at night. This island is important because it is a link in a chain of islands along Kuwait's coastline from north to south, which provide Kuwait with a defensive frontline. Oil prospects are promising and therefore Kuwait is expected to invest in the island economically.
[
Qaruh Island
]
Qaruh island is an island belonging to the state of Kuwait which received its name from the large amounts of petroleum sediments in the area (known as Qar in Arabic).
It is the smallest of the nine islands, and also the furthest island from the Kuwaiti mainland. It is located 37.5 kilometers away from the mainland, and 17 kilometers away from Umm al Maradim. The island is roughly 275 meters long by 175 meters at its widest. The island was also the first pieces of Kuwaiti soil that was liberated from Iraq during the Gulf War on January 21, 1991.
[
Um Al Maradim Island
]
Umm al Maradim (Translation: Mother of boulders) is an island belonging to the state of Kuwait. It is located between Kuwaiti and Saudi territorial waters.
The island is 1.5 kilometers in length and 540 meters wide. The island is known to have deep waters surrounding it, in which large ships can safely anchor.
[
Bubiyan Island
]
Bubiyan islandn is the largest island in the Kuwaiti coastal island chain with an area of 863 km. It is linked to the mainland by a concrete bridge which is for military use only.
The island is situated in the north-western corner of the Persian Gulf. During the Persian Gulf War of 1991 the bridge was destroyed, but has been rebuilt.
In November 1994, Iraq formally accepted the UN-demarcated border with Kuwait which had been spelled out in Security Council Resolutions 687 (1991), 773 (1993), and 883 (1993) which formally ended an earlier claim to Bubiyan Island.

Warbah Island
]
Warbah island is an island belonging to Kuwait, located in the Persian Gulf, near the mouth of the Euphrates River.
It is located roughly 100 meters east of the Kuwaiti mainland, 1.5 kilometers north of Bubiyan Island and 1 kilometer south of the Iraqi mainland. It is roughly 15 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide with a total area of 37 square kilometers. The island is essentially a large mud flat.
The island has no permanent inhabitants although the government maintains an coastguard post, named M-1 on the island which is partially funded by the United Nations.
In November 1994, Iraq formally accepted the UN-demarcated border with Kuwait which had been spelled out in Security Council Resolutions 687 (1991), 773 (1993), and 883 (1993) which formally ended an earlier claim to Warbah Island.
Near the island in early December, 2002, in the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq, an Iraqi ship opened fire on two Kuwaiti coastguard patrol boats, causing them to collide. A US serviceman and two Kuwaiti coastguards were injured in the attack, no mention was made of the reason for the US serviceman's presence.
